Rachel has taken several lessons at our stables here in Ensenada, while visiting her grandma Carol this summer. Rachel was a quick learner, and a natural at horseback riding. Before she went back to the states, she had one more lesson, and then we were off and running up above the Ensenada Bay!

While Rachel was here she learned to control her horse, turn her, stop. She was able to trot around on Karinnah, and get her to “whoa” on command, and got her to go where she asked.

As we were up in the mountains above Ensenada, she says to me “I thought you said we were going to run on this trail” (as she was trotting along) I said “you are trotting, do you want to trot some more?” “No, I just want to take it all in, it’s nicer going slow. “ She’s a great kid, and going to do great at horseback riding in the future.

We hope to see you on your next vacation visiting here in Ensenada Rachel, can’t wait to do some more trail riding. What a summer to remember riding through the clouds!

Horseback riding lessons in Ensenada Mexico

First off we would like to say a BIG thank you to Tina Jo and Dawn who have a  rescue ranch here in Punta Banda, (you can find them at http://tinajospromise.org/) for referring us to their good friend Carol. We took in their horse Jalapeno who is in training at the moment. We have become great friends with them, and appreciate all their support and referrals.

Carol came out with her granddaughter who is 9 years old today for a horseback riding lesson here in Ensenada. Her granddaughter Rachel is visiting from CA for 2.5 weeks.  She had ridden before with friends and family in CA. She had knowledge of how to approach the horse, brush her, saddle her up, and learned how to bridle and unbridle her horse. Rachel  became a pro in no time, she’s a very fast learner, and is going to be going on a couple trail rides with us.  Way to go Rachel! We move at your pace, and when you feel comfortable we move onto the next level. Rachel was having so much fun her grandma couldn’t pull her away from the horse.

Come out for a lesson, a  trail ride or both! Here at Desert Trails, kids not only learn the safety of being around a horse, how to care for them but also the responsibility of putting away all the tack and grooming supplies when done. It’s a fun filled, responsibility learned lessons over here at our stables. The children have a great time, as do the adults for that matter! With a view of the ocean and Ensenada harbor, a gentle breeze…..what a fantastic day while the kids are learning to ride and be safe around a horse before heading out on a trail ride over looking the bay.

Our first trail ride with Indio over looking the coast in Ensenada

Cherokee & Indio

Cherokee & Indio

Our first ride with Indio 014Indio came to us about 6 days ago, from Ojos Negros, about an hour  drive from Ensenada Centro. He was delivered to us by some cowboys who needed a truck, and we needed a horse.  When we walked into his paddock to halter him, his eyes lit up like he was saying “yes, we’re going to do something fun!” He was fantastic about saddling up, just like our other 2 horses. When it was time to go, he couldn’t wait, Indio was off and walking. Cherokee and Indio did fantastic together on their first trail ride as a pair. Indio was an old pro at trail riding and performed flawlessly!  His” been there done that” attitude rang true going through the Mexican villas, up the hills and into the mountains above Todos Santos island.  He is a keeper at our stables and will be here when you are ready to come down and take a ride above the clouds over Ensenada Bay!
